The Outlook Steak & Grill at Grand Sierra Pines: Outlook Good =)
Facebook recently changed how the latest posts are seen on the blog’s FB page newsfeed. These days, I only see a couple of “news” from establishments I liked and one of them is Grand Sierra Pines. (I’m rolling my eyes at YOU, Facebook. Geez, social media platform! The reason why I gave these pages a thumbs up is to keep up to date with what’s going on with them and here you are, limiting my view. Why fix it if it ain’t broke? *le sigh)
Oh well, bechamel; oh well, caramel; oh well, mackerel. =b
We arrived at The Outlook Steak and Grill a little after 11:00 a.m., after seeing a post sharedon Sierra Pines’ FB page that they’re open for soft operations at 11:00 a.m. (As of the publishing of this post, they’ve taken that down. *hee) Race and I hung around the lobby and The Atrium dining area but not a creature was stirring at The Outlook so we decided to just come back and rode off to … Axes for lunch. \m/
At 5:00 p.m., we came round the bend again and saw the lights on inside the building – a testament to it being open to serve. We took our place at one of the tables at the topmost floor of the lookout resto and reveled in the lush pine needle view. =) In between the green leafy strips, we saw the sunset cast changing hues of orange to red on the clouds, and also lightning crashing somewhere further in the distance.
Shifting our eyes to the menu, it was my turn to be stunned. Did a lightning bolt just strike me or what? I was so looking forward to getting something like in one of the photos on their page, but had to rethink it. It was only when I had time to recover did I resolve that ordering at least one of the sous vide (Chef Helene in the Burnt movie on my mind here again) steaks they had to offer (the most doable one *snickers) wasn’t going to bring ultimate damage to my pocket. Too late … we already picked an appetizer and dishes for dinner (that sounded more like snacks =D).
UPDATE 10/29/2016: Updated to more doable prices for the Outlook Steak and Grill foodstuff. (You know it, clipboard menus means improvements and innovations ongoing.)
When our orders were delivered, we marveled at their pretty presentation on the chopping boards. It was a substantial enough serving too, that we relaxed and thought it was just right for a dinner meal. The starters, especially so … whoa, those three-bites-large dense carb packed mac and cheese cubes.
Race’s shrimp po’ boy was a good sandwich which consisted of a black burger bun, coleslaw, and lots of fried little shrimp sauced up with Sriracha. I must tell you how they laid out the lettuce (the Lollo Rosso) on the lower bun too; so orderly, CDO people (alphabetical OCD) will love this! A light, airy, “extravagant in spirit” sandwich (contrary to the denser sandwich for “poor boys”) served with potato chips, we, at one point, did think that the chips needed some kind of sauce.
As did my fish and chips. (As did the mac and cheese bites. Another helping of marinara sauce please.) Even with an intensely flavored and (mayo/honey mustard) saucey coleslaw salad side (same as the one in Race’s po-boy), I still would’ve wanted a ranch dip or tartar dip for the batter covered dory on my chopping board plate. We asked for a little ketchup for the potato wedges that partnered the fish and that helped us enjoy this selection better. ^^,
Sir Paulo, the manager, came up to get our take on what we thought of the dishes. After our little chat, he sent over some mojitos to … in his words, bring more joy to our table. (Many thanks, Sir!) (And to those of you thinking, I got the complimentary drinks because I identified myself as a food blogger, let me state it here again, I wouldn’t do such a thing. I could not, would not … on a boat. I will not, will not with a goat. =)) But seriously. Please, guys, a little credit. =S)
Out of the desserts, it was churros that caught my eye with its two dips: Hot choco and cream cheese sauce. Though, X+1 became a bit apprehensive about the serving portion. If it’s just one piece on the plate, what now, we wondered. [While we are at the wondering, what is the plural of churros anyway? Churroses? Churri? A bunch of churros? Some churros? (Just like Baldrick’s “some beans” in Blackadder. *harhar) UPDATE 09/22/2016: Churros is already plural. All rightie, that’s a load off.] We didn’t have to decide as fate made it for us, with the churros not being available.
Pretty full from what we had so far of the Outlook restaurant offering, we stayed awhile and just watched everything around us go black as we delighted in the cold Baguio night air. (“,)
X marks The Outlook Steak and Grill for good food in Baguio. Our eight-ball tummies rumbled and were satisfied. Yes, the outlook is good.
Ambiance: So old Baguio/Christmastime feel … with a club-y vibe especially when it came to their music and at the first floor, where the pool table is.
Price: From one treasure chest, UPDATED to with their lowered prices.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, foodie friends, I have to sell a kidney to be able to come back here and try more foodstuff from their menu. *heehahahahaha UPDATE 10/29/2016: I GET TO KEEP BOTH KIDNEYS! Items on the Outlook menu have been repriced.
