Goin’ Pancit Crazy at Mikko’s Kitchenette
(Very funny, the universe. Just when I feel uber resigned, it sends me something I could be excited enough about. Le Coq Bleu: Right place, right time. *toothy grin with glint of light flashing at you *hihi BIG THANKS to the girl … umm, I’m talking about another girl. =b)
So we’re hanging out at the homestay. Like the great food lovers that we are, we’re talking about food before, during, and after a meal. *hee The conversation leads to a carinderia that serves different kinds of noodles for dirt cheap. I had the image of Noodle King in my head but this is on the other side/end of Quezon Hill/Tacay Road, a few steps away from Tam-Awan Village.
The first chance we got, Race and I found ourselves at Mikko’s Kitchenette. =) After a long good look at their menu, there was no forcing Race to get any of the foreign sounding kinds. Canton guisado was his pick. How he enjoyed that with the kichenette’s zingy Sriracha-like hot sauce.
I went for palabok. For Mikko’s version, it was a plate of delicate noodles, drenched and swimming in sauce with a wonderful chicharon topping. \m/ My plate was light enough that I could get another order when I finished so I got pancit Cabagan.
As it was brought to the table, it looked a lot like instant noodles mostly because it was soupy and the shape of the noodles reminded me of such. (Race says it must be Apollo brand. Wow, aren’t we being so commercial today. =)) ) Taking half of it, Race was in awe at what the fresh onion chop topping did to the bowl . As for the additional soup on the side, it was comforting/warming sau-p to drink on its own. (Does sou-ce sound better? *tee hee)
I couldn’t help but order more for our foodie lovies at home (just to cover more menu ground). While the bihon guisado did not rival Good Taste‘s, it was good enough for its price. With a dash of Pinoy Spice (a wonder of a vinegar mix, my gawwd) on the batil patong and the fried egg or wait, was that poached? (Wee!), this quickly became my favorite of our pancit day bunch. It was not as overwhelmingly protein packed as the most authentic batil patong we have in our city. ^^,
Since we got a taste of the lomi from Ms. Ghirl’s stash, we already knew how tasty syrupy that bowl was going to be. There’s two kinds available at Mikko’s. What makes the lomi special different from lomi de luxe is there’s more toppings on deluxe. With so much more of that good chicharon (NYUM!), the soup gets even thicker. We diluted a few spoonfuls in water and had the perfect sabaw on dog food for the day that got our furry loved ones licking their bowls till the essence of it was gone. (“,)
X marks Mikko’s Kitchenette for good food in Baguio. All these in one day; I totally went pancit crazy!
Service: and
I just love it when attendants take notice that we have helmets with us and they adjust the packing of our take away stuff accordingly. More sturdy and easy-to-hold-with-one-hand packing, thank you so much po!
Price: Less than P60 for a single serving, it’s hard not to go crazy and … panic buy. P270 total for six different kinds of pancit, man!
