Bay Leaf Restaurant (Cris ‘d Cuisine): Flourishing Amid the Times
2012
… was the year we heard the name Bay Leaf Restaurant for the first time. It just opened its doors to Baguio’s dining public. It was the perfect spot for a P3+1 powwow since we all found ourselves near Mother Earth that day anyways. Were we glad for the option to not have to dwell on the “san tayo” question for so long? Ecstatic. =b
(Yes, those are longanisa bits you see there. What’s more, this Cesar salad has a local twist to it with a couple dashes of etag oil. \m/)
(Olives, tomato sauce, chorizo, red wine … taste explosion callos!)
(The very first of Race’s pork ribs orders. He would go on to get the same exact dish every time we visit Chef Cris’ restaurant.)
2013
With the Baguio food quest in full swing, I wanted to see what’s up at the resto since their grand opening so Race and I had lunch here again on a December day.
(Kani salad the Bay Leaf way: With crispy fried filo pastry and black sesame dressing.)
(Cordon bleu style sandwich, man.)
2014
Before I could even write an actual feature on the eatery (having gone on hiatus from blogging in the holiday season) (I just had a menu post up), I heard that they closed. Nine months later, Bay Leaf was reborn! Wee! At a more accessible location with a nicer and cozier interior design.
I remember that was a good brunch meal for me and my brother. He got the tasty bistek overload and I picked the chef’s salad. Boy, was I surprised when a huge bowl was delivered to our table. Such a beautiful bowl, it made my veggie lovin‘ heart sing. ^^,
Butterscotch cheesecake squares: Little bites of sweetness for the perfect meal ending.
2016
With me … and Ms. C … raving about the salads of Bay Leaf, Race realized, he’s never eaten at the new location so ♪ here we are again ♫♪
(Yes, Race got the ribs once more. Which was a miss this day in that it was still a bit ice cold in the middle. We asked for it to be popped back in the micro and we’re all set.)
More than potato cubes, there’s lots of other veggies tossed in this square bowl of filling, filling salad. Whoa, I could’ve ordered this alone.
So far, this joint has got my favorite Vietnamese rolls. With little coriander leaves and mint leaves in the roll, it was just the refreshing ‘snack’ I needed for summer. (“,)
For my main course, pasta in tuna aligue sauce. Even though I’d already gotten major full from the salad and the spring rolls, I couldn’t get enough of the flavors of this dish. As soon as it was gone from my mouth, I had to shovel more of it in. =D After a forkful, contented sighs. After another forkful, more contented sighs.
2016 at Happy Homes branch
Before one scrolls down through this post, the collage up top would’ve looked so much like this diner kept on remodeling. Now, we all know the reason behind this chameleon like action from the resto. I tell you, this was a mighty challenging eating spot to pin down with their moving around. *hihi
So Happy Homes is Bay Leaf’s wider and even cozier, ever pretty happy home now.
At the blessing party Chef Maricris invited X+1 to, we had such a ball with the wide array of ingredients laid out for the DIY salad. Even without the pepper cream dressing for my first plate, it was fabulous, dah-ling, fabulous. I was so topped up with all the greens that I had a bit of difficulty finishing my creamy salty/sweet pumpkin soup starter when dinner officially started. =)
Race went ohh and ahh with every bit of this adobo with rice.
Annnd another dish was added to my Bay Leaf list of favorites with their embotido. *nomnomnom
[We had other dishes at the event but since they’re not on the menu, I won’t tease you, foodie friends, by posting photos of them in here. #Xinecares *tee hee Orders for Chef’ Specialties (duck kaldereta, duck curry, laing, patatim, crispy pata, sinampalukang kambing, kalderetang kambing, kilawen karne, pinapaitan etc.) are welcome though, just contact Chef Maricris.]
