Maeve Cafe: Simple but Great Joys at Lucia’s B&B
Finally, at last, belatedly, we’re here!
Allow me to insert a short flashback story first. While we’re at it, cue memory lane walking music. *hihi
At the beginning of February 2016, I had the opportunity to be one of the reviewers in GMA News TV’s Pop Talk. After a fun, action packed taping day, I was informed that the Baguio specials were set to air in two consecutive Saturdays with the food episode falling on street dancing parade day. The Saturday before that, the feature was on Baguio City B&B’s and at Lucia’s, Kuya Tonipet and the reviewers not only took a look-see of an eye candy accommodation but also sat to a beautiful, scrumptious looking breakfast. *drool
Takaw tingin and inggitera as I am *hee, I also wanted to try the bed and breakfast’s breakfast but heard that one had to be booked for a stay there before that became possible. *sniffy sniffs
Fast forward to 2018, Lucia’s inhouse resto, Maeve Cafe, opened its doors to the foodie public although it entails a reservation made at least two days in advance (so they can prepare the dishes for you and your foodie posse with the freshest ingredients.) Wee! You know what’s up … We already made a booking (by sending a message to their Facebook page) faster than you can say Maeve Cafe at Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast. =b
UPDATE 01/29/2019: No reservation needed to dine at Maeve Cafe branch at Ili-likha Artists Center on Assumption Road. They’ve got salads, burritos and cakes in jars on their menu there for you to enjoy.
Standing at the gate before ringing the doorbell, I marveled at the impressive structure and the wide driveway/parking area in front of it. Once the gate was opened, we took a short ‘walk downhill’ while pondering on the thought provoking ‘graffiti’ quotes lining the wall. Quick turn left and finally, at last, belatedly, we’re here at the quaint garden-ish set up at Maeve’s. \m/
So peaceful and quiet was the location, it was only our host, Ms. Cathy’s voice and ours breaking it as we talked a bit about their cafe … and the B&B and cafe dog, Bruce. OMG, the paws on this furry lovable creature. ^^,

Balsamic chicken topped with basil and strawberries, on mixed Baguio greens and rice (“,)
We didn’t wait long for our brunch meal. (Maeve Cafe menu.) I wasn’t done inspecting every little detail in this establishment when Sir Em came out of the kitchen with our food. It’s balsamic chicken topped with basil and strawberries with salad AND rice (Thank you for both accompaniments, Ms. Cathy) for Race and breakfast fajitas with cheese and cilantro omelette for me. =D
Such a pretty bowl of salad, that strawberry and broccoli toss up was (Christmas colors). Crunchy yum, too. The tortillas, probably the thinnest and most delicate looking I’ve seen but surprisingly, they were quite sturdy as I rolled it around the bits of scrambled egg and chicken and cheese. Lightly flavored fajitas, I’d say, with the strongest flavor being only the tiny drops of strawberry chili sauce … I put into it. Tan-tan-taaan!
A good heat, it’s not like the sensation I dislike from some hot sauces that numbs the tongue and makes you feel like you just swallowed fire and someone needs to call the fire department because it’s not dying down. =))
Needless to say, Race also made use of the strawberry hot sauce though the poultry on his plate was already tasty good. The salad it rested on was also a powerhouse salad made up of veggies like spinach and kale. In a flash, the pilaf rice, the greens and the chicken were cleaned off my better half’s plate. (“,)
Together with Maeve Cafe’s overflowing coffee and tea, we made dessert out of our orange-strawberry loaf/pound cake order. What a great idea it is to put together these two fruits for bread. =) Before I took a bite, I smelled the slice. Ahh, refreshing scent of orange. Then it’s moist fruity bites all the way.
(Ahhh, can’t contain gigil over old doggie boy, Bruce. Eeiii! You see, he was asleep when we first arrived at the cafe. I didn’t want to give him a pat straight away as he might get startled. I put his nose to the test by putting my foot near it, hoping he would get a scent of my furry lovies. I guess his sense of smell is still in top condition, for without opening his eyes, he moved his snout closer and closer to my foot. I might have smelled intriguing enough for him to open his eyes, get up and get a closer sniff. *teeheehee)

I made another friend at the bed and breakfast and cafe. Bruce, old boy. =b
Same with the pound cake, as soon as we got home, I opened the pack of lemon basil cookies and took a deep whiff. Whoa, smelled like pizza!!! Then a bite; ohh, soft cookie, fresh lemon-y taste. Package passed around to my brother and Race, they went wide eyed, mmm.
X marks Maeve Cafe at Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast for good food in Baguio. We found simple but great joys in the food, the sights, the people and their doge at our mealtime at Maeve’s indeed.
Service: Everyone’s so friendly and accommodating at this cafe. It was nice chatting with you, Ms. Cathy and Sir Em.
Price: Small, almost like “playing house” *harhar, servings. Bitin, strawberry & broccoli salad.
Please send a message to their Facebook page or give them a text/call for inquiries and bookings.

Hello there, katfoodblog! Thanks for the star for this feature on Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast inhouse resto, Maeve Cafe. More power to your food blog! (“,)
This post makes me very happy. Lucia’s B&B is popular in Instagram and I always wanted to see it with my own eyes. Now that Maeve cafe is open for reservations from nonguests I can also visit Lucia’s. Yaaasss!! Thanks, Xine.
Hello there, Steph! Aha, happy dancing for you too. *hihi I hope you have a great time at Maeve Cafe and at Lucia’s Bed and Breakfast (finally). Thank you so much for visiting the blog and for leaving a comment. Enjoy! (“,)
We tried the breakfast at Lucia;s last summer of 2017. Needed to book two days in advance so all the food would be prepared fresh. We tried everything they were offering for breakfast. Since we were 6 in the group, we were able to have a taste of everything in one seating. There was no rice dish available then, but we enjoyed everything: the calzone, fajitas, pizza omelette and the brewed coffee.Cathy and her husband, Em, were very accommodating. The place was very serene like a secret garden of sort. Our accommodation was just a walking distance from Lucia’s, but I hope to try their rooms next time.
Hello, Gemma Padrelanan! How nice you got to try everything Maeve’s garden cafe had to offer … and in 2017 no less. You got a sneak peek there. \m/
I could relate so much to your narrative of your experience at Lucia’s in house resto; we really did enjoy the food, the place and the company of Ms. Cathy and Sir Em, too. Thank you for recounting your Maeve Cafe experience here.
Cheers to your return to Baguio, booking your accommodations at Lucia’s, and making new memories at the cafe! (“,)

Hello there, Carol! Apologies but I don’t have that information. (Too busy with Bruce and the sights =b) I’m sure the information can be obtained directly from the Lucia’s Facebook page.
