What’s Up Duck Cafe & Resto: On the Up and Up
Cue Donell Jones’ song.

The calm before the storm. =b (Flatlay view of spread here.)
♪ ♫ Say what, say what, say what. Girl, you know what’s up. ♫
It’s WUD cafe and restaurant.
Mid 2017, I remember seeing a couple architectural drawings for the future vision for What’s Up Duck on their Facebook page. As soon as they opened for a trial run, (you know what’s up,) X+1 teleported to this restaurant located a short distance away from the Bakakeng arch. *hihi They had a simple menu then, no ducky dishes yet, but they already won us over () with their pigar pigar, beep beep the mami with balut, and nagpato-patong stir fry pancit.
Quack, quack, quack
It was recently with a couple of foodie bloggin’ friends that we got to return to see what’s up with this duck resto. (Thank you, Ms. Pam for inviting us to tag along.)
The place looking more like the perspectives, an expanded viewdeck/outdoor dining area; and the menu growing from a handful of items to a whopping selection, (What’s Up Duck 2018 menu) it sure looks like they’re on the up and up. \m/
Out on the wide deck, the view is made up of the tops of pine trees, distant houses, and the mountain range. Also, nice blue skies or a breathtaking sunset on a clear day. I’ve been dying to see Sto. Tomas from the view deck but unfortunately, in both X+1 visits, it was sort of cloudy. (At the foodievent, I realized who the culprit was for all those clouds. Evidence? See the photo after pinikpikan. =)) )
From their duck themed offering, we got to try the sizzling duck sisig, spicy duck adobo, and pinikpikang pato. I, honestly, was a bit wary about these dishes, thinking the gamy taste was an acquired taste. My, did WUD surprise me. I tip my hat to the chef for the skilled preparation of this fowl … There wasn’t a hint of gaminess. Hurrah!
Together with the flavors from the other ingredients, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed these and give a hearty ‘quack-quack’ in approval. What a nice kick the spicy adobo had, how tasty every bit of sisig, and how nice and smoky the pinikpikan (true blue with etag) with sayote still crunchy good. And that pinikpikan soup, *sip ahh.
Waddle Away … to nonduck selections
While the resto/cafe’s name suggests that they’re a restaurant for duck meat dishes, they also have other options for munchies like salad, chicken, pork, beef, sandwiches/burgers, and pasta. Their beverage list is also quite extensive seeing this is a nice chill hangout complete with acoustic nights happening on Fridays and Saturday evenings. =D
I loved how the veggie starters were well complemented by their respective dressings. It was such fun chewing on the deep fried sotanghon topping of the crispy chiqk salad, little crunchy bites (together with the shoestring fries that came with the burger and mozzarella sandwich =b). That kept my chompers busy while we chatted the afternoon away.
So our forks and spoons went from this plate to that. The grilled leg quarter offered up some perfect grilled meat flavors to tickle our tastebuds. The tender beef swimming in creamy buttery mushroom gravy was a crowd favorite. ^^,
The fried mozzarella sandwich was a wonder in that it looked very simple but it had a complex taste. The orange strip sandwiched with the cheese there is bellpepper. It was a point of interest for us to hear that the double patty burger we just took a bite out of was made of juicy pork. Whoa!
And then there was crispy pata. Need I say more? =)
What’s up in the Baguio dining scene, you say? Why, one of them is What’s Up Duck. Check them out yourself, dear foodie reader. They’re on the up and up. (“,)
