Kooky Over Koki Nonky Restaurant
Before anything else, let’s just lay it out there that koki means chef in Bahasa Indonesia.
That’s just one of the juicy tidbit‘s that we were given as soon as we arrived at Indonesian Chef Nonky’s restaurant and we have Chef Jay, who is one of the people behind the Riprap tambayan greats, to thank. =) Koki Nonky’s is one of the eating places that opened its doors to foodies and hungry peeps in Baguio at the end of 2017. And yes, it’s another reco/find by eager beaver Sir Dan. (Thank you kindly.)
We finally made it to this food joint when our season’s eatings were (almost) all consumed. (How long lasting no? =b Still reeling over that gift from Tita Lea. <3) Once we were handed over to our attendant, she ably and efficiently listed out to us what wasn’t available. (Kudos! I know someone who’s going to love that kind of proactiveness. *singsong voice I, in turn, appreciate it because nothing makes me sadder than hearing something I want isn’t available for some reason or other. *teehee Emotera lang.)
We sat down at our table that had a distant view of the Mirador Jesuit Villa, Naguilian road and San Roque Village, a sea of clouds at one point, and a split second but beautiful reddish sunset; and started off our meal with fish and chips. \m/ This comes with two dips, tartare sauce and one hot sauce/spaghetti sauce looking thingy but had a fun peanut-y taste … almost like kare-kare. =D
My better half and I noted how the fish was fried enough to be crispy, that it brought more depth to the fish, texture wise. (We’re not sure what type of fish was used but if it’s cream dory, which Race considers a boring fish *hee, it’s nice to know that something could be done to give it more character.) Since I didn’t/mostly don’t get to eat “real food” until we eat out, my hands were quick to fill my gob with this and the crispy crunchy potato chips it came with. *namnamnam
Then the nasi goreng was delivered to our table. What a thing of beauty (especially to a famished girl like me). It’s a heap of rice peppered generously with bits of chicken, shrimp, and veggies. Race gave his share a little kick with the sambal sauce provided on the side. The satay chicken that came with it = wow. The flavor seeped into the meat so much that it reminded me of Himalayan chicken malai boti. ^^,
Concentrating on the rice meal, it seemed we ate and ate and ate for the serving was so huge. We finished it, with clean plates to boot before we moved to our ‘bigger, better’ burger order.
Nonky’s beef burger is made up of a beef patty (but of course), lettuce, dill pickle, cheese, onion, and BBQ sauce, according to the menu. There was, however, other stuff in it like a meaty strip, we couldn’t place what it was, and a sunny side up. (“,) As full as we were with the loaded Indonesian stir fried rice, we soldiered on to finish this tasty beef sandwich and its add on of fries, that was sort of messy (on account of the small rouge colored bun) … finger lickin’ good … to eat.
X marks Koki Nonky’s for good food in Baguio. Here I am, kooky over their yummy, tummy filling offering.
Food: As I was munching on yet another spoonful of nasi goreng, I told Race I was inclined to give them a for that particular dish. Mmm, so good. The other two, gets
