Tribute to Mandarin Restaurant, My Home of Great Chinese Cuisine *sniffles

So that’s the name of the building …
On third thought, a final-final-final bite of info. =b
I hope you prepared yourselves because it’s a sad one.

Fried rice with lechon Macau and a serving of lumi. (“,)
Another one of Baguio’s greatest hits for good food will bite the dust on the first day of the new year. (An institution, as our new foodie friend called it. Very apt. Shout out to Aya! =D) (Soon to be another one for the list, Taga-Baguio Ka Kung … ? *sniffy sniff) Now, I’m totally feeling crummy.
This calls for another tribute post to bid thanks and farewell … this time, to Mandarin Restaurant. Ten days left till it closes its doors completely, eatcentrics.
I didn’t mean to end 2014 on this note, but this must be posted. Whether you’re a regular customer of the home of great Chinese cuisine or just in the City of Pines on holiday, you might want to take time out to dine here if only to savor, reminisce, make a new memory of the appetizing dishes that this Chinese restaurant has offered to the Baguio masses for many years.

View of Session from our “timpintin” table.
With every spoonful from this (our last) meal at the food establishment, my heart (as well as my tummy) felt heavier and heavier (a mix of the good and the bad there).
If there’s sabaw palang, ulam na, the fried rice here was tasty and could be a full meal in and of itself. ^^, The Mandarin mixed vegetables, I’d miss terribly too for it’s my favorite version of chop suey. (We had so much of its homecooked version as kids, it’s the veggie viand I came to despise *snickers). The lumi … oh, tender, jelly like lumi, and its savory sauce. *tearing up now
One of the best dining services; everything I need for the meal brought to the table without me even asking for it; “Why? Why are you going away, Mandarin?” was the thought that kept running in my mind. *sigh
But such is life. The old gives way to the new, there are beginnings and ends, hellos and goodbyes.
While it’s truly heartbreaking to see one of my favorites close, I/we have nothing but well wishes for you all, the staff at Mandarin. (“,) Thank you so much!

X+1 reminiscing, enjoying Mandarin for the last time. (There’s my brave face. =)) )
***Big thanks to Jo, my eyes and ears for juicy tidbits for the food quest. Good on you, my eatsplorer friend! Big hugs!
***Shout out to John, a follower of the blog, whom Race and I met while dining at Mon and Pot Lugaw Avenue at Newtown Square. We met before, haven’t we? At the Blog Conference 3, if I’m not mistaken. Right, right? *hihi Apologies, senior moment =))

X Marks the Spot for Good Baguio Foods is a personal blog. Everything posted in this blog is PERSONAL OPINION DERIVED FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and since TASTE can be pretty SUBJECTIVE, should NOT be taken as THE NORM or the LAW OF DINING around in the City of Pines.
Its (prosaic =b) contents are meant to help with the question “san tayo?”/where do we go? in relation to eating out in Baguio, to ENCOURAGE EXPLORING (eatsploring) and TRYING NEW THINGS offered in the City of Pines.
By all means, eat where you want to eat and eat what you want to eat. May you have a great experience with all the places you visit and may all the restaurants you go to deserve a ton of treasure chests! (“,)
(Also, if you have any second thoughts about a certain place you arrive at, please DON'T LET THIS BLOG BE THE REASON YOU ARE FORCED into ending up anywhere. If the restaurant doesn’t have what you want, please FEEL FREE TO WALK AWAY.)

Whats happening? First, Sunshine Lunch then Star Cafe and now this. =(
Hey there, Nickie! As per staff member, they just didn’t want to continue on anymore. If they’re friends with Star Cafe, might have liked how retired from the food business looks. *hihi Surely, they’ll be missed. A happy new year to us all, nonetheless. (“,)
