Mon & Pot Lugaw Avenue: The Road to Fullness
Haha, very funny, weather. As soon as I published the Summer’s Here, Cha Tien Giveaway blog post, it started getting gloomy cloudy. In the succeeding days, we even had a little rain shower or two; all rightie, two seasons are here. =b I think, now’s a good time to post something about some rainy season/cold/wet days dish … just in case.
Behold, the stuff from Mon & Pot Lugaw Avenue, lugaw/rice porridge. Care to take a walk on the Avenue with me? ^^,
Race and I walked into this congee place that now stands shoulder to shoulder with food joints like Teacup and Cake, Famous Belgian Waffles, Jjimdak, Redbuggy Burgers and the mini Woodnymph +Tea on the first floor of the Newtown Square building, mighty hungry. [We’ll leave the blog post(s) on those other restos that recently opened for another day.]
My better half went for the big bowl that had egg, chicken strips, tripe and siomai. Not to be bested, I got a big one too, but just topped with egg. (I find this is one of the top things I crave for. Does that say protein deficiency to you or what? =)) )
With such a huge dish of the porridge, I thought about how a few more squeezes of calamansi juice (from seven juicy round ones, sour’s my bet, too *hihi) would make this perfect. (Take a look back at the lugaw tray photos, you have to admit, the calamansi looks so inadequate hanging on the rim.) At any rate, this Lugaw Avenue meal goes down in history as one of the heaviest ones I’ve ever eaten … and with just one bowl. \m/
To get some variety in taste, we decided to get another dish from Mon & Pot’s selection. Tada, tokwa’t baboy! That was a nice, well-balanced helping of pork and tofu cubes and was a pleasure to eat soaked in its zingy sauce.
Still keeping with the craving of the protein deficient, *giggles I also got some fresh lumpia, tempted with the thought of all the vegetables bundled in a gauzy egg wrap. We didn’t touch a morsel on this when it finally arrived at the table since we were already well satiated. =)
We did, however, attack this with gusto at dinner at home. =D How the aroma of peanuts hovered over the dining table with the lugaw place’s own peanut sauce! I thought there was too much of that on the plate when this roll was served to us but it proved to be just the right amount. I went aww, frowny face again when we finished it off.
X marks Mon and Pot Lugaw Avenue for good food in Baguio. *burp What a filling meal!
