UPDATE: Citylight Hotel Coffeeshop

Finally made good on my promise of making another visit to Citylight.  This time, it’s to experience dining at their café.  Initially, our goal was their brazo de Mercedes (which I was at the height of my craving for, when we didn’t get it at Red Cherries or Danes…or Goldilocks – that story later ^^, I’m still craving for it.)  I didn’t know that the day before I so wanted to eat brazo, Citylight posted a photo of it on their Facebook page (must mean it’s available rightie? *hihi).

When we got there, (days late now), the brazo was nowhere to be found. *aw  From the wide selection, I then got my eye on the blueberry cheesecake as I was still looking to get my blueberry fix (that story in another blog =D).  Standing around at the counter, some orders were delivered to their respective tables and the bowl of soup in one tray seemed very appealing, what with this day (January 18, 2013) being the coldest day (so far) in Baguio City. Brrrr!

We asked the cashier (who left us unattended for a period of time *weh. I liked the male dining attendants at the café better; thank you for the good service, guys!) for a menu and then got a seat at the only table that was free indoors.  The Citylight café ambiance sort of lacks coziness in a cold day like this, with the wind blowing in through its doors.  No way, was I going to sit outside, either.  (I wasn’t bundled up enough to brave the chilly air there).  (Must be fun on a warmer day, though…or just when you’re wearing more layers. =))

There were lots of other stuff on the Citylight menu.  We stopped where the soups were and Race chose ramen.

Citylight Hotel ramen

Citylight Hotel’s version of the “goddess” ramen =)) The ‘Ramen Girl – Abby has strayed from the safety of conventional ramen, and made hers with peppers, corn and tomato, a concoction she calls “Goddess Ramen”.’   A good enough bowl of soup (“,) The flavors were intense and by flavors, I mean salty. *heeharhar (The noodles were too thin to balance that flavor out.)  I enjoyed the oiliness of the broth, however.  It helped build more warmth in my body.

I still settled for a slice of blueberry cheesecake and a glass of green passion iced tea (*heeharhar and she says it was super cold then =b)

Citylight Hotel blueberry cheesecake

My blueberry cheesecake. The cream cheese on the tip falling from the weight of the blueberry topping…and probably, the knife’s weight. More creamy than cheesy with just a hint of saltiness.  I didn’t get the whole crust under my slice (most likely left on the cake platter =b). I had a mind to ask them for P5 back…which I should’ve done as you’ll read later in the quest to satisfy my craving for brazo de mercedes. =b

In retrospect, I would’ve gotten some white cake… if only to say it like Leonardo di Caprio’s character, Calvin Candie in Django Unchained did.  “Now, gentlemen, if you care to join me in the parlor.  We will be serving Hhhwite cake.” \m/

Citylight Hotel green passion iced tea

Green passion iced tea before and after mixing. Mixed, it tasted a bit like Cafe Sapore’s kryptonite beverage. Yup, too much ice too and so the flavor just disappeared. *sniff

So, that’s that with our Citylight Cafe visit.  We’ll be back for the other stuff (pages and pages of yummy looking dishes) (maybe some white cake – or pie with cool whip? =D).

Now for the Goldilocks Brazo de Mercedes Story

We ran our errands, bought this and that.  I couldn’t take the brazo craving anymore so we decided to get it from Goldilocks.  Getting to their Session Road branch, there was only a whole roll left.

I saw the price as P235 and checked my pocket for the money we had left. I thought we had enough.  The male attendant boxed the cake up and the cashier told me the price, P295. (Oh my, I have to get my eyes checked *hihi)  We just had P290 and not a peso more.  I asked the cashier if they accepted cards.  She said, irritated like (or maybe that’s just how I interpreted her expression *hee), “cash lang po”/cash only. Ouch. =))

We cancelled the order. *huhu

Why, brazo?! Why are you so elusive?! Why?!

I won’t give up! I’ll get you some day! *fist in air
