Yamashita: Treasure Discovered in the Noodle House
Is that a double take I just saw you do? =b
I guess it would be better to insert a little adjective before the word ‘treasure’ on the title just so I wouldn’t be getting people’s hopes up or have them rushing over to the noodle house (but the latter isn’t really a bad thing, is it? *hihi)
Tasty – tasty treasures, that’s what Race and I discovered at Yamashita Japanese Noodle House.
We just came from the surplus store (not all Japanese stuff like the other stores/second hand shops that seem to be popping up everywhere now) and Race had the brilliant idea of crossing Yamashita off the list. I heard a lot about this place from Ms. Gracie and with the kind of temperature we’ve been having lately, a hot bowl of ramen is just what everybody needs.
So that’s what Race got for chow time. Yamashita boasts of serving “real” Japanese noodles/being the only source in Baguio for homemade noodles and it seems like my better half bought it. My, did he enjoy his hand-throat-body-soul warming, tummy filling bowl. I have to say, it was such a pretty dish, I also got a sip of the broth and a slurp (the loudest I could muster *heeharhar) of the golden noodles. Now, that’s ramen with soul! Suddenly, I felt like I knew how Abby, the goddess Ramen Girl felt when she had her seconds. =D
Oh, the menu! Please refer to last week’s blog post for the Yamashita menu because there’s more to the noodle house than noodles … like gyoza. We got ourselves that side dish while I waited for my Japanese fried rice. A little on the small side, these gyozas fried until golden brown were … but with six pieces, it was just enough for X+1. Dipped into our own mix of soy sauce, calamansi juice and (pretty) chilies (see collage above), it was just perfect. \m/
As for my meal, it was Japanese fried rice … you know how I love rice that has everything in it. This one’s topped with a few slices of pork, too. Ahh, scrumptious, scrumptious rice. Although it was regular rice, the way it was cooked reminded me of how wild rice (blog post on that soon =) ) feels churning away and being broken down to smaller bits in one’s mouth. The golden grains are more tangible and flavorful … how can I explain this more? Have you ever tried, eating sesame seeds one by one? It’s like that, only bigger. (“,) (What? You’ve never tried it? Now’s as good a time as any. The sesame seeds on a burger bun would do nicely. *giggles Trust me, I know. =)
X marks the noodle house for Yamashita’s hidden treasure, that is the gratifyingly good golden noodles and the warm delight of broth in a bowl, the titillating tangy grains of Japanese fried rice and comfort in the familiar food like dumplings/gyoza.
Just like greedy treasure hunters, we’ll soon be back for more.
Ambiance: This ‘house’ is tiny. Feeling slightly claustrophobic, I took the bar stool nearest the door. Or … was that the layer upon layer of clothes I got on then? *hee, it’s SO c-c-cold in the city.
Price: Ramen bowl excluded, their servings are pretty modest.

Thanks for this post, Xine! Now I know where to go for a delicious bowl of ramen during this cold weather! And a parking space too! weee!
Hello there, cynthiafontanilla! It’s my pleasure.
Yes, the perfect combo! Ohh, that’s just one (or maybe that’s two) parking slot in front of their store but I guess if that’s taken, 50s might be good with sharing.
Stay warm and have a great Baguio eatscapade! (“,)
I want that hot bowl of yummy ramen now. it’s so cold! 🙂
Hiyee, Nickie! Super! And with a bowl of ramen, it’s brrr to ahhh. *hihi Stay warm, you! I hope your week’s going well! (“,)
Hi Xine, we went there too. 🙂
Oh, yes, you have, nice! Have a great new week! (“,)
the 10php Nissin Ramen is so much better. you can buy the noodle of their ramen from nearby markets. such a rip off for a 120php ramen. as for the other dishes, i haven’t tried yet. but for the ramen? don’t waste your money with it
Hello Quruli! Aw, that’s too bad you didn’t think it was worth it. Wishing you better food trips ahead! (“,)

Hi, Ram! The details you need can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/BaguioYamashita/info/?tab=page_info Hope this helps. Happy Baguio food quest! (“,)
