Rustic Box Steak and Wine House: Baguio’s Newest Steakhouse
Just a couple days after doing a feature post on two newly opened eating places in the heart of Baguio City, food trip city, Session Road, I’m back with another new one. (This one’s a discovery by eatsplorer Jo. Thankies, you! =D)
I know right? We’ve surely got our foodie work cut out for us, so let’s get on with it, shall we?
This franchise of Rustic Box Steakhouse officially opened its doors to the City of Pines just yesterday. I so wanted to go on their first day but thanks to Odette [the second coming; that name was used in 2013, too. (Some useless info bite there. *snickers) I remember the crazy winds that one had.], we were graced with bed weather.
Luckily, today got better. Contrary to the main, Manila branch Facebook page, the Baguio steakhouse opens at 10:00 a.m. We were also informed that they’re looking into opening earlier in the future for breakfast as they do have a good selection for potential first meals of the day. =) (Wagyu bites for breakfast? Yes, please.)
Anyway, we were at the steak joint for an uber late lunch and what else were we excited to try but foodstuff from their steak offering. I breathed a sigh of relief at the prices of their dishes. There, I was expecting a P500 price range, and they’re well below that. Shyeew.
Race got himself the budget T-bone steak while I went for the French chops. So amusing, aside from the degree of doneness, you also get to pick what rub you want for your chunk of protein (save for the French chops). Race and I both got it medium well. (Even me. Naks.)
My chop of meat arrived first. It was a good enough thickness to have a nice and pinkish part in the middle. Arming myself with a knife, (an honest to goodness knife, thank the heavens, not just a butter knife … so be careful where you point that thing), I carved away the bone.
O mah lawd, that flavor. I kept each piece I sliced off longer in my gob to eke out more of whatever marinade they had that tender meat in. \m/ Like a savory chewing gum but defo, not chewy. Every bit, I followed with a little helping of rice. *nomnomnom
Race’s T-bone din-din, on the other hand, I just got a bit of, drenched in gravy. Good … but mine’s better. =b
In hindsight, we also got a salad because veggie girl will die without greens, (The French beans on my chopping board wasn’t enough) and extra side of mashed potatoes (because potato head as well *tee hee). Romaine lettuce with a few rings of cucumber, croutons, and strips of chicken tossed together made a fine Caesar salad, but my better half somehow thought it was lacking another texture. Maybe singkamas, he said. I pointed out, that would probably fly with Manong Cesar’s but not this one, the western version. =))
The mashed potatoes was not as buttery as we have it in some other restaurants, (again) wallowing in gravy, and a welcome taste. It served to calm my tongue down from the explosion of flavors in my meal.
While munching away at our food, I dropped eaves on the owner of the resto saying to his guests that the ice cream was a must try. Choosing to take his advice, we got a cup of the Key lime pie ice cream. The perfect ending to the gorge fest for it was refreshing and had a chilling effect on my overstimulated excited tastebuds. ^^,
X marks Rustic Box Steakhouse for good food in Baguio. Methinks Baguio’s newest steakhouse is my favorite steakhouse. (“,)
Ambiance: Cozy but sort of narrow a space that I can see would be packed in no time. No worries. Cafe Caridad, right beside it, to the rescue! *heehaha
