Trove of Tasty Treasures: Over the Rainbow & Pot O’ Gold
Another feature that fits into categories like Baguio’s Greatest Hits for Good Food, Notable Edibles, Staple Foods Baguio, and at the same time, New in Town. \m/
Uhm, that above is not a pot of gold … though it does look a bit like it. (It looks like a bread bowl to me, too. *hihi)
Notable Edibles #14: Pot O’ Gold Cream Puffs and Over the Rainbow Sweets Cookies
I guess it’s all right to take these brands as one. Pot O’ Gold and Over the Rainbow Sweets is a mother-daughter tandem, you see. A family tradition of catering to our snacking needs, be it early morn, or a treat after lunch or a midnight snack; weee!
The Pot o’ Gold cream puff is composed of flaky puff pastry that’s not in any way dry. No worries with whatever feels dry to you, ’cause it will surely be moistened by the rich and thick cream filling one would never mistake for bavarian (as I do with other creams in other puffs =b).
It’s natural to keep on poppin’ as soon as you open a box of these tasty treasures. A word of caution when you do; exercise a bit of control if you’ve got nothing to restock your stash with yet. That’s so we can avoid the frowny faces over having … eaten … every … puff.
While you’re at cream puff loading, how about stocking up on a different variety of snackable too, so you’ll be just in time when your mouth looks for a whole ‘nother texture for treats. Voila, Over the Rainbow Sweets’ crunchy chewy cookies by our good foodie friend, Ela.
For whatever kind of sweet craving you have, there’s a flavor choice for you. There’s red velvet, Oreo cheesecake, mint choco chip, double choco chunk (new), matcha white choco (new), and s’mores cookies (new). (So far red velvet’s my fave. Oh, the minute burst of sweetness with the white choco bits. ^^, )
8.) Pot O’ Gold Eatery
Another brand in home cooked greats I knew of, but not sure if I’ve actually tried it in some family gathering when I was younger. (Yes, this source of yummy dishes has been in Baguio since time immemorial.) You know it; if it’s food and it’s good, just start shoveling it all into the gob. *heeharhar
Their newest stall is located on the 4th floor of University Belt building (a few steps from SLU main gate, where Jollibee is). Lechon, grilled spare ribs, baked chicken, fried chicken, breaded fish fillet rice meals at this Pot of Gold booth comes with soup, a veggie side dish (nice little trick there for you to eat your vegetables, kids/students *tee hee) and up to two cups of rice, prices range from P50 to P70.

My gosh, died and gone to heaven with their lechon. I’ve never actually had crispy skin on lechon before which is why I prefer lechon paksiw. But this, this was like biting into a sliver of chicharon. And how tasty tender was that lean in contrast. Wow! (Also available in kilo slabs, if you order in advance, P480/kg.)
While we waited for our orders to be put together, Race and I cooled ourselves down with some ice toppers. (Is it just me or is it too hot at noon for a November day?) This being my first try of the icy treat, I’d still have to get the hang of mixing and matching flavors and toppings together. What I got mixed (pandan flavor with caramel) didn’t taste bad though and it was just what we needed as a refreshment. *contented sighs
Grilled spare ribs was our other order. Tangy a viand and perfect for the lotsa rice with a pinakbet side dish. Oh, before I forget to mention, the dishes at Pot o’ Gold are MSG free. Eating right, you are, for sure. =)
An extra short order of lechon. ’nuff said.
Since we were taking this stuff home, we bought extra ulam of fish fillet and zingy baked chicken to share with the family. We got Japadog(s), too and small ziplock packs of every kind of sauce for it available. = D I think the sauce for the fillet is under that pile … somewhere.
Over The Rainbow Sweets’ newest cookie creation, s’mores, was dessert. Sorry, I didn’t get a shot of that, eatsplorers. Right after we finished with lunch, my hand involuntarily reached for the sweet treat, opened the packet and led it to its doom. “Please, sir, I want s’more.” says Oliver Twist. =)))
X marks Pot O’ Gold (and by extension, Over the Rainbow Sweets) troves for good food treasure, nyum-nyum profiteroles and cookies, tummy filling viands, in Baguio. But you already knew that … it’s one of Baguio’s greatest hits for restaurants. (“,)
