Notable Edibles #16 – Matchato
It’s time to turn the spotlight on another notable edible that we’ve recently discovered through the power couple behind Judge Fudge (#15). (Thanks so much, you two!)
Here we go.
Matchato
As the name indicates, we’re putting our focus on matcha foodstuff today: Cupcakes and little sweet treats that are green tea flavored. Matcha ito! =b
It all starts with us, eatsplorers, leaving a message on the Matchato Facebook page [complete with name, contact number, orders, and pick up date (falls on Tuesdays or Fridays)].
Having picked our boxes of goodies from Porta Vaga … and after photo documentation, of course, I distributed the matcha cupcakes around the house. Taking a bite out of mine, I thought, ohh, me likey this one. You see, given a choice, I prefer actual cakes to the mini version. =)
For one, they’re mini. Two, they’re hard to eat (takes lots of effort, methinks #clumsyeaterlang). Three, after taking them out from the paper lining, there’s no side, NO SIDE! left with icing. It doesn’t matter that there’s already an icing topping towering on the little cake. I ❤ icing.
Matchato’s was just the right height, with just the right balance, taste wise, for the icing and the cakebread. ^^, It was fun, too, that the bread nearest the lining was a little burnt and that turned into, not necessarily crunchy, but the kind of stuff that sticks to your teeth a bit, that’s so tasty (probably because the sugars in that part had more reaction to the heat).
We then got our chompers on some of the bite sized sweets. I thoroughly enjoyed the choco covered marshmallow with the little squirt of matcha cream injected into it. (“,) The wafer pieces covered in green tea chocolate were a tad sweet for my taste … but no worries, you know that all went successfully down the hatch.
The lady we claimed the orders from, told us that because it was a special day for the creator of these matcha snacks, they were sending us off with two extra cupcakes (strawberry flavored with fondant topping) at no extra charge. Thank you so much for these and happy birthday to you! Such a nice surprise, for this turned out to be one of my blog anniv celebration treats. =D I appreciate the personalized fondant decor too. X, that is me.
With two boxes of the limited set chocos, we were pretty much covered for one bite desserts for a couple of days. (These look a lot like the Care Bear chocolates we used to buy at Choco Loco on Session Road when we were younger. Not Carebear shaped but the way the chocos are molded. Still missing Choco Loco or Loco Choco.)
Out of the four kinds of chocolate combos, my favorites were the dark choco with matcha and the special septemberry flavor of strawberry and green tea combined. [Classic sets have three flavors, two plain matcha (flower shaped and shell shaped), one combo with milk choco and the other, paired with dark choco.] *nomnomnom
Got a hankering for matcha eatables, my foodie friend? Head on down to the Facebook page where it’s everything matcha ‘to and see how they can take care of your cravings.
