(That’s probably the shortest title I’ll ever come up with for a post in this food blog. *snickers)
One of the things I do for entertainment looking at my friends’ social media profiles is make a game out of guessing where they dined based on their photos. You see, I’ve no real systematic way of crossing off places from our Baguio restaurant list and we just go by what we feel like eating (and what we think they serve at a particular resto if it’s new). It was on one of these look throughs that the location of a photo utterly stumped me (and Race).
After thinking on it a good while and still not getting it, I finally asked Kim about it. (Thanks so much, you! *heehahaha CSI style ruling out of locations … without the help of tech. Whew, we really gave ourselves a run around there!) As soon as she gave out the answer and I was done with work, I was so motivated to make it the restaurant of the day. Voila, our feature restaurant for today: Food of the Day Restocafe. =D
Jo’s been dying to try this place out ever since it opened (She and Ela emailed me on the same day about it. Uncanny … since they don’t know each other. *cue mystery show tunes) and as soon as I sent her a message, was game for the impromptu food quest. (Thankies for the indulgence on short notice, friend!)
Riding out to Quezon Hill, Race and I were expecting to find the cafe well into the barangay but it was just outside of it. Good thing Jeff’s Off Road is such a huge shop. We were bracing ourselves for going way up the hill when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the shop’s sign.
As soon as we got settled in the lofty, bright, nice looking joint (lots of different seating areas, high tables, low tables, weee!), we picked our meals for the late lunch. It seems that Race is taking on the challenge of running a sisig showdown himself (Shout out to Sir Don!) and so he picked pork sisig to chow on. Verdict: It looked and tasted better than the one from the JADGSJ at the Camp. With rice, veggies and a bowl of squash soup, it was mighty filling as well. =)
Jo went for the grilled beef with mushrooms. When her plate was delivered to the table, she greeted the mushrooms with enthusiasm. I forked one off from her plate (Looks like lots of people love ‘shrooms, man. =)) ) and totally forgot to get a piece of meat. (I got busy with her small saucer of zingy vinegar. (“,)) Anyway, she says, it made her feel like she was eating beef steak/bistek … that had a little more class to it. *giggles The soup that came with Race and Jo’s meals was a lightly sweetened appetizer.
I chose something from the Le Hong Chow selection of the menu – the fried stuffed eggplant. I anticipated my plate would have an eggplant or two standing plump with whatever stuffing that was with the top capped on it but I only got slices of eggplant with meat in between. Technically, the meat was still inserted in the slices so no problem, I started munching. It was a real Chinese-y dish with the flavorsome sauce mixed in with the juicy squishy eggplant and ground meat. It made me totally forget, I wanted to get some pizza too. *hee
From the dessert ref, I got the last of the panna cottas. Just take a look at those colors, could you blame me? Even though it was brought to our table while we were still eating our meals, it was still pretty icy in the middle when I spooned some out after. It was milky and jelly enough although I didn’t place what it was supposed to be flavored as … most likely, melon. I’m saying that like I’ve got a numb tongue … which I did have then. ^^,
That’s also because of my bubble gum frappe. I liked Race’s mocha frappe better though but I could only take a sip. (Sleepless night, stay away! =b) My drink tasted too artificial (it was the anticipation of the beverage color that called to me *teehee Looks like it bled on my top, or v.v.). I didn’t get a sip of Jo’s iced tea slush (although I’m assuming it tastes the same as the one at Yda’s). (Lookie, mason jar again. They sure are making the rounds.)
X marks F.O.T.D. for good food in Baguio, it’s SFG. Food of the Day: So frickin’ good.
