Chillin’ and Grillin’ at IhawJuan Ihawan

Almost didnt get to …

X and the guys at Baguio IhawJuan Grill All You Can (4)

(“,)

… document this food adventure. I only realized halfway to Marcos Highway in a taxi with my brother that I forgot my trusty camera. Race motorcycled his way to the newly opened establishment ahead of us and when we got there, my brother saved us a spot in the resto while we made our watagata way back home to get ‘Old Faithful‘.  The things I do for you; you’re welcome, fellow eatsplorer! *heehaha

Baguio IhawJuan Grill All You Can dining area

The dining area with each long table with two grills and two funnel vents over them. Nice.

Getting back to the grill and eat all you can restaurant by Mei Hwa [‘by’ has a double meaning there since IhawJuan is right beside it  (taking over the place of an old Korean restaurant) and it’s also the sister resto to the Chinese foods place], smoke hovered over the dining area as different tables of diners fired their grills up. No worries, foodies because all the tables have plunger shaped exhaust over it \m/ (like at Hodori Naguilian); it’s just that these didn’t work on our visit because Marcos Highway was part of yesterday’s brownout.

Baguio IhawJuan Grill All You Can grill with charcoal briquettes

A look inside the barbecue grill. ^^, “Burn, baby, burn!”

My brother‘s already got our barbecue thingy going with some pieces of meat from the wide selection of meats available at the buffet table when we returned. Between you and me, I was a bit worried that he had some charred pieces in his pile of protein. *hee I guess we have the charcoal briquettes to blame for that; first time, my brother’s ever used them … and he did say was a bit flustered cooking alone for the 30 minutes we were away. (Guess briquettes are the best choice for this ihawan because they burn longer. I got that little tidbit from Alton. =D How they burned till we walked out the door!)

Choices, choices … =)

Not everything we can barbecue at Ihaw Juan Ihawan is meat. They do have slices of tofu (which I loved) and also oblong shaped cuts from an eggplant (which I didn’t enjoy much). Here I am thinking how grilled bell peppers or grilled tomatoes would be much more to my liking.^^, Speaking of tomatoes, what’s Pinoy grilling without ensalada? Or maybe just a serving plate of diced tomatoes and another with some onions; we can take care of mixing it all up. May I have some bagoong and calamansi please? While I’m at it, soy sauce? (Ohh, we do love our sauces. =)) )

One of our sets of grilling/grilled meats. =D

They also have some seafood selections like squid tentacles, daing and squid balls (we’ll give that a pass and consider that seafood for now *hihi). I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled tentacles and the squid balls (which I slathered a ton of Race’s grilling sauce mix on). The daing, hhmmm, I was a bit torn with that. I think that’s best fried with a considerable amount of oil to crisp up the skin. With such a thin slice, that just burned on us … We didn’t want to turn it fat side down. Real fish steaks or maybe just cross section cuts of fish sounds pretty good to me. Oh, oh, and (small) bangus with an ensalada stuffing? I’m going overboard, I know. *blush blush

Baguio IhawJuan Grill All You Can soup, fried rice and iced tea all you can too

It’s soup, rice (*nomnomnom their fried rice) and iced tea all you can too. \m/

Together with accompaniments of egg drop soup, garlic rice and glasses of iced tea, we did have great fun dining at the grill & eat all you can of pork BBQ, pork chops, pork tapa, ham, tocino, longanisa, chicken wings, chicken neck, chicken BBQ, chicken isaw, etc., etc. … Just look at the smiles on the guys’ faces when we finished. The ‘primitive pyro’ in them was surely satisfied. (“,)

X marks IhawJuan for good food in Baguio. (Pretty good at soft opening phase. *applause applause)

Food: 3 treasure chests

Service: 3 treasure chests Took a little time for them to refill the chafing dishes of grillables (why we didn’t get to try Imelda fish and chicken balls *snickers).

Ambiance: 3 treasure chests

Price: 5 treasure chests on opening promo price at P199 lunch, P249 dinner. Regular price after this dry run/soft opening phase, according to their poster, will be P399. (I’ve got my fingers crossed, my grilling wishes of bell peppers or tomatoes, ensalada, fish steaks will be fulfilled then. I wish, I wish … =b )

How do you guys find these places? It seems here in your Ihawjuan post there were just a few people in the ihawan and now its always full. X marks the spot for Baguio food first to discover foodie places. Good work B-)
