Bowls and Sticks: Student Meals with A Gourmet Flair
As one might expect, there is a long list of places to eat at in a university belt. In New Lucban Barangay, since time immemorial, food establishments have been popping up like mushrooms. I thought I could cover more ground if I did a Destination Chow post when two notable restaurants opened in the vicinity but I guess 11:00-ish, Thursday is too early for SUBS (unless Thursday is a special day for them and they don’t open at all *hee) (We did catch them on a different day, blog feature on that soon *tee hee).

The dining area … with my brother’s take on a Weeping Angel. Don’t blink! *snickers
At any rate, the day wasn’t lost as we had Bowls and Sticks on the other side of the barangay to fall back on. For this second visit too, I finally got enough inspiration to actually have stuff going on in my brain to set fingertips to keyboard. Yey for that! \m/

Fascinated with the light fixtures again on our October 2014 dining experience. =b
Hearing about the special dessert they have from Paolo (thank you!), I initially planned on having our lunch at the sandwich store and having dessert at Bowls & Sticks. With Subs being MIA this day, Race and I chose the same dishes we had in our first visit. Little did we know, there’s an additional listing of new offerings to the side of the restaurant.
Anyhoo, I was excited about having a repeat of their affordable smoothies, too. They sound like a drink some health buff would consume … on a plus plus side, they are very enjoyable. =D
B and S’ dishes are student meals, both in serving proportion as well as price. The presentation is so nice, it’s enough to entice us to order more.
My chicken umay was creamy like carbonara but it’s eaten with rice … Well, hello, risotto. ^^, There are little pieces of chicken sprinkled here and there under the sauce which I finished in a flash. I certainly was glad for the cream sauce that I spooned over the remaining spoonfuls of rice in my bowl.
For their tasty adobo, Race had no problem having that for lunch once more as well. It’s not as sauced up as the home cooked viand we’re used to but the meat was juicy and had the soy/vinegar/spices flavor seep in every nook and cranny. *nomnomnom
Together with my brother’s burger steak is a (be)side dish, coleslaw. My brother did his regular quick eyebrows raise as he pursed his lips in an “mmm” so I took that as a sign that he was pleased with his order. (“,)
For dessert, we got one chocolate bomb to see how it does become a bomb. In our minds, we had images of Escuela’s deep fried cookie dough dessert. When our meal ender came to the table, it was something altogether different. The pouring of hot syrup over the choco shell made me think of gourmet/molecular cuisine/El Bulli/Le Chef movie. =) As the syrup melts the chocolate shell away, ice cream and our choice of stuffings is revealed.
As a mix of rocky road ice cream, caramelized apple slices, chocolate and syrup, the dessert was a tad too sweet for us. I feel I’m getting diabetes just thinking about it again. =)) Maybe it would’ve helped if the ice cream was something simple like vanilla. Hhmmm, wonder, wonder. It was a fun thought though, we paid less than P500 for what we had and got an added bonus of a new way to enjoy a meal. For that, our compliments to the chef at Bowls and Sticks. Please do continue to regale us with such creations. *rah-rah-rah
X marks Bowls and Sticks for good food (food with a gourmet flair) in Baguio.
Ambiance: [I heard they have a highly trained black lab. (*apir, fellow dog/animal lover, Ela) Nothing really to do about the ambiance but it would totally make me uber happy if I meet him/her at one visit. Ginawang mascot? =b ]
