Destination Chow: ECCO Building (Latreia Bookshop Cafe, Posticino, and Gutom)
Here we go again with the wet weather. (Summer days, you are but a dream. =S) Good timing, it is then to feature another destination for chow – just one building so you, my foodie friends don’t have to run around under the rain Baguio food questing. (Bawal magkasakit/getting sick is not allowed! ^^,)
First up, Latreia
… the bookshop cafe on the third floor. The first time Race and I went here was back in 2013 (*gasp gasp, just so many places to eat at in Baguio!) at the recommendation of eatsplorer, Ms. Ryle, thank you so much!
We arrived a few minutes before lunch and got ourselves a little snack and a couple glasses of their haliberry smoothies. These drinks were gladly received since it was shaping up be a scorching hot day.
As for the waffles and the crepe, it really was little (and light =b) in that I barely felt it go to my tummy. They were good munchables though.
Latreia Bookshop Cafe
Ambiance: If you’re someone who likes to hang out in noncrowded places, you might want to visit Latreia at any other time besides lunch. It quickly gets packed when school’s in with students eating their lunches (Ohh, Mcdo … and little lunches – Ohh, flavored fries. Waha, so reminds me of our Funwich for lunch high school days … and that is why I didn’t grow fully; man, I feel short! =)) Shout out to Anne, Starlet, MJ, Irene, Joanne, Myrtle, Malou and all my school lunch buddies! )
Price: Might have to buy two orders each of the crepe and the waffle to really feel satisfied.
Posticino
Months later, we found ourselves at the Italian restaurant on the 2nd floor (for student budgets, too \m/). A charming little place that did give me a feeling of being transported to Venice, albeit a cartoon-y one. =)
Sure enough, pasta is their niche. I ❤ Posticino pastas, pesto and lasagna. (“,)
Even if the lasagna was a bit undercooked on this visit, the sauce that was truly meaty and savory was its saving grace. Weee!
As for the pesto, see the slivers of garlic underneath the cheese? Wow, what a kick it lent to every forkful. I have to mention too that the garlic bread on the pastas were lipsmacking, just perfect for wiping the extra sauces off the plate.
Making up for the absence of arancini, we topped this meal off with another dish, the parmesan crusted fish fillet. The fish was okay and what really sang to me both in looks and in taste was herb speckled rice.
Posticino
Food: Definitely, one of my favorite pasta places!
Gutom
Gutom ka na ba/are you hungry? If the answer is yes, hear this new budget friendly Korean resto say, “I can fix that” (in Sam, from movie Holes’, tone). When my better half and I came a-visiting yesterday, they definitely made sure we left the opposite of gutom with their huge servings of delicious food.
Now I know what I’ve been eating after tutoring time with some of my students – jeyuk-deopbap (It’s okay to say it slowly *hee) [spicy stir-fried pork (with strips of tender squid) with rice]
For the menus of Latreia Cafe and Posticino, click here.
Gutom
Ambiance: Gutom is a pretty small place where I imagine some exceedingly hungry people who’d want the eatery to ‘fix’ them would be pretty bummed if they found the store full of other patrons.
X marks Latreia, Posticino and Gutom for good food in Baguio.
***I certainly was happy with these food establishments in the building. I did have an issue with Ecco’s security guard who was on duty yesterday (06-09-2014 at around 5:30 p.m.) though. He took his guarding duties so seriously that he was more ruthless than the guards at BCC or even school guards I’ve encountered when I happen to leave my ID at home.
How he probed us when we came to park in front of the building. He asked me three times where we were going when I already pointed to him when he first asked that we would be going to the second floor. I had to rummage my brain for what the names of the restaurants were. When I gave out the three restos names, he even replied with a “Yun!” in a patronizing tone. (What if I’ve never been inside before and know nothing of the establishments there?)
I already had a mind to abandon this destination chow altogether. =( It truly was offensive to me that he made it seem like we had to go by his leave to go into the building, like we were vandals or hoodlums.
When you do go here, eatsplorers, I pray you don’t have to park anything in front of his mighty lordliness. Better yet, I hope you never cross paths with him.
Thank you, dear readers, for letting me vent, I feel a bit better now. Geez, Louise, mental anguish over a rude security guard =b
I don’t want to end with a damper so here goes …
We went by Posticino for some arancini after our Gutom visit but alas, it wasn’t available again. I’ll get you yet, arancini! *feeling determined (*heehaha, Facebook, what have you done?) We passed by Latreia Bookshop Cafe, too, to get this baby: A kiwi tealicious treat to cap our heavy Korean early dinner off. (“,)
