Forecast at Casa Pizzeria: A Downpour of Pizza with A Chance of Pasta
It’s been said (and joked about) that being a weatherman is probably the best job that one could ever have. Their justification: “It’s the only job you can keep while being wrong 80% of the time.”
Speaking of weather, we’ve been having some really strange and unpredictable ones of late and when it’s monsoon-y one day, it’s warm (even scorching hot *shyeew) and fine and dandy on another. Today (06/17/2013), we’ve got a tropical depression in the Philippine area of responsibility and thank the gods, it’s not rearing its ugly head yet. (Hope it just fizzles out … hate stormy weather =b).

Inside the little casa … Room 306 De Leon Building is not necessarily on the “third” floor. Enter the building from the Session Road entrance, the casa is the door on the right before you get to Western Union. (No flights of stairs to climb.)
Taking advantage of the beautiful days we’ve had after the monsoon, my brother and I went on a Baguio food quest yesterday to see if Casa Pizzeria can make it on the list of where to eat good food in Baguio. I looked around their Facebook page for clues as to what to order and seeing that their solo pizzas had a doable price, I thought it would be fun to get every kind that the casa had to offer for lunch. (We didn’t eat a morsel all morning. … that’s not actually true. =D I did munch on some hot Piknik – my snack addiction of the month … err, several months. But a few potato crisps of Piknik, a meal does not make. *snickers)
We took the table nearest the door and asked our attendant about the size of their solo pizza. She came out with the pan. (I think that’s 6 or 7 inches … 8? Not good with measurements apparently *hee) I then told her that we would get every type of pizza they had, all in solo size. (You should’ve seen how her jaw dropped. I should’ve taken a photo of her. =) Flabbergasted is a mild way to put it. Every staff member at the little pizzeria got all in a fluster at the kitchen/counter, it was sort of fun to watch. *giggles … and then they started preparing our pizzas.)

Fruit shakes (avocado and mango were the only choices for the day) to wash the different pizzas down. I was so relieved my brother picked the avocado one. =b Ew, icky fruit … icky memories concerning this fruit, more rightly.
For drinks, Casa Pizzeria had fruit shakes, some Fit ‘n Right juices, soda and water to offer. Cue, my co-teacher at the academy saying shakes are a weird pairing for pizza. Pizza and beer, pizza AND beer, he said. (Shout out to T. Kopsa! ^^,) This is one of the best glasses of fruit shakes I’ve had so far. Truly fruity, sweet and creamy and all for P35. Whoo-hoo!

Pizzas from the oven to our table. There was one, then three, then five, then six … (Get a load of the cucumbers in the shawarma pizza. It’s like the fake cucumbers you can put on your eyes getting a beauty treatment *heehaha)
I gave our lunch situation a little thought as I dipped my slice of pepperoni pizza in some garlic sauce (a sweet-ish blend) alternating with the hot sauce (also sweet-ish) that I squirted on my plate. I called for reinforcements and when we had seven pizzas on our table, Race arrived with his empty stomach.
Having sampled every kind, my brother and I discussed our favorites. We are so related. Our top three picks were: mushroomed burger, vegetarian (interesting and fun textures with the broccoli) and supreme. (“,) Again, not a fan of seafood (in pizza as well) but the tuna pizza was pretty good. Dabbed with garlic sauce made it even better. Anchovies … another ew for me. Good thing, they had that topping with mushrooms … mushrooms, I like. *hihi It provided for a good balance in the flavors of that particular slice.

Every pizza that Casa Pizzeria had, save for the chicken barbecue which we’ll just come back for (wasn’t available), along with the pasta later. (“,)
Race liked the shawarma pizza best. That was a tasty one. So tasty that I got myself a glass of soda. I didn’t want that to be the last taste in my mouth. It had to be mushroom burger. =)) Race also liked the tuna pizza.
Pepperoni and Hawaiian were just okay. All in all, the dough did a lot for the quality of the De Leon pizzas. It was good, moist and chewy. My brother also liked that the toppings were spread evenly on the dough in all the pans. \m/
X marks Casa Pizzeria for good food (good and value for money pizza and milk shakes) in Baguio. We had a downpour of delicious De Leon pizza at the casa and we weathered it so well we’re coming back for more.
No pasta for this visit; too full after eight carb-packed slices. *harhar Next time, it’s a pasta downpour we’ll go for.
Service: Kudos for getting all our orders out to us together with the orders that your other patrons had. Three cheers for the staff!
Ambiance: Casa Pizzeria can easily become a full house. It’s a small establishment that can fit four groups of pizza lovers. Any more people … oh, claustrophobia.
Price: P650 something for eight pizzas, three fruit shakes and one soda that fed three people till they were satisfied with a few slices for take home even … I know, right?
