A Gastronomic Expedition Courtesy of Kiwi’s Shop
My siblings, Race and I got to travel to a couple of countries in Europe, in Australasia, and U.S. in one sweep.
How did we do that, you must wonder. ^^, We did it by just sitting at one of the tables at Kiwi’s Bread and Pastry Shop.
- Greece
Made with the freshest greens that’s readily available in Baguio and topped with cubes of feta cheese, this is a salad after my own heart. Served with an interesting dressing (I don’t believe I’ve ever had before), like the juices of the cucumber, the tomato dashed with some sugar and salt, it’s one of the top salads on my list now. Wee!
Besides the stuff on their menu, there are lots of other treats that can be purchased at Kiwi’s. Acai berry juice, wurstchen, jams, one of the highest cocoa percentages of chocolate I’ve seen, cakes and a wide selection of bread to rival the BCC Pastry Shop.

My sister going crazy over the offerings at the Kiwi’s shop. (Middle photo, she’s about to have a heart attack. Bread happiness! Last photo, buying frenzy *hihi)
- Australia
Oh wow, if this is what Aussies have for breakfast every day. A serving of meats (sausage, bacon, steak ‘shavings’ – not sure if that’s grass fed beef but no matter), egg, bread slices and a bowl of pork and beans. Way to start the day right, with a power meal.
- Italy
An utterly unique helping of pasta, rotelli with walnut sauce. Lightly seasoned, a few more shakes of the parmesan cheese shaker would’ve made this just right for me. *hee Quick fix … the US bowl of chili con.
- United States
A not so spicy stew but I/we didn’t mind. Chock full of beans and ground meat, it was one flavorful and filling bowl. Drizzled over some of the pasta (which took on the role of rice) and it’s magnifico. *drilling finger to cheek
I had my fork in every bowl and plate at our table at Kiwi’s, save for Race’s order, the special burger. Race described it as the Australian breakfast in a bun with some Greek salad on the side, minus the fab dressing. [Sandwiched in between the buns of this tall burger … youch, the lock jaw =D is a fried egg, veggies (tomato, lettuce), bacon and steak shavings.] Race went mixing away at the dressings (mustard, mayo and catsup) making the burger his own. Whoa, more satisfying than designer burgers, he says.
With our table crowded with food (Hooray for blessings!), you could understand how my chompers were pretty occupied. Below are a few shots of what it looks like at the restaurant, there are seats on the first floor and on the mezzanine and you can also dine al fresco. =) No worries, that table’s nicely hidden behind the resto sign and shaded by a pretty umbrella.
- New Zealand
These slices of pavlova, we got on the house. (Thank you so much, Kiwi’s staff!) Named after the Russian dancer, Anna Pavlova, this dessert had always been a bone of contention between Australia and New Zealand. Kiwi’s has got me taking their side though. I believe this crunchy light sweetness and white choco flakes breaking up in between chews is a New Zealand creation. Sugar rushy meringue will never be the same.
- Germany, Britain, back to Italy …
The breads from my big sister’s panic buying, we got to try the next day. With the stollen, the German fruitcake, my favor was stolen from regular fruitcakes.
The focaccia just like a pizza devoid of tomato sauce but still scrumptious. We speculate it would go really well with salads or pastas, a scarpetta for the sauce. As for the muffins, verdict to follow … unless my bread monger sister already had them all to herself. =b
- Rebound to New Zealand
I would never leave Kiwi’s without a sampling of their unique pretty green cake, the kiwi cake. It’s for this that Baguio Kiwi’s Bread and Pastry Shop became one of my best loved food establishments. (“,) Dollops of cream topped with sweet cherries; moist, perceptibly fluffy cakebread wrapped with mint green colored chocolate, with cherry ripple WITH whole cherries in between layers . (“There’s more to life than JE-lly.” – Dr. Nefario, Despicable Me 2)
The best thing about this dessert? The kiwi seeds studded cake offers up dainty crunchies (pop, pop, pop) with every forkful. *swooooooon You won’t see me saving the cherry for last with this one.

Move over blueberry cheesecake (“,)
X marks Kiwi’s Bread and Pastry Shop for good food [not just bread and pastry (but we sure could live on their baked stuff \m/)] in Baguio. Gastronomic expedition, anyone? Travel with Kiwi’s today, they’ve got a rad itinerary planned for you.
Food: ***MSG free food! (food offerings are free of monosodium glutamate – as per menu/restaurant staff member. Please ALWAYS CONFIRM with your attendant/server/waiter to be on the safe side. ^^,)

Hello there, lesleycarter! Around the world seated at a good food establishment’s table. *hihi Would still like to see New Zealand and other places for myself too … like you. \m/ Thank you so much! Have a nice day! (“,)
The Kiwi Cake and Pavlova were simply awesome … the breads a wonderful feast of flavors and the meal we had tummy filling … I still have joyful jolts of fullness when I remember our Aussie breakfast and it’s been a week. We must go back for seconds and more seconds, especially when the BRAT Pack is home.
We’ll definitely be back … and back again and back again. Heck, i wanted to go back the day after =)) Hooray for kiwi cake and pavlova! (“,)
