(Chapter 2) Student Fare, Bakakeng: Manna Garden Cafe
I still maintain that kids these days are so lucky. (Booming Bakakeng with impressive school facilities, man!) That being said, I wouldn’t exchange my experiences as a student to be a student today. (Anybody can go back to school if they want, yes, but total replacement of memories, nah … shriveled hotdogs on cold rice in a baonan/lunch box with moist covers because the food was packed up when it was still hot *heehahaha Those were the days). Let’s just go with: You’re lucky,I’m lucky, everyone’s lucky.
… but I digress.
X+1 went to Cosy’s (because I admit, even without the decor, I’m still stalking the Christmas house =b). To our surprise, the constant fixture behind the counter, Kuya Joel, was not there. We were informed by his little helper (crap, I didn’t get her name, soweee *blush), he was out manning the new branch to the cafe in Bakakeng. (Congratulations, Kuya, weee!)
We went and made a visit … usi moves, too. *hihi Besides the coffee shop, Manna Garden Cafe is made up of other budget friendly food establishments. These are Pastaym Bistro, Red Bowl, Pinoy Pao, Busog’Silog, Between Two Buns, and Mama Cita’s Lutong Bahay.
We only planned on buying some drinks from Cosy’s but then B2B called to us … literally. The lady at the store started recommending their fries and burgers. (Nice going, you! \m/) Haven’t had lunch yet (and it’s almost time for dinner), we weren’t in a protesting mood and so were glad to oblige her.
The Cosy’s beverages were new to us. Rose garden milk tea is like a mild and fragrant wintermelon flavored one and white rabbit coffee was uber strong, no one would ever be late for class or whatever gig after drinking this – batteries supercharged with caffeine=))
This burger and fries move is something we didn’t regret too because the burger really was grand, with its two patties and bacon strips. The fries … you know how I feel about potatoes. Just in case you were wondering what makes the potatoes so Belgian, it’s the thick cuts (not the ground meat, got yah =) ). Not really sure if this one was twice baked but no big deal, fries are fries and I love them either way. *nomnomnom
Where’s the garden, you say? There it is! Don’t worry about the smoke signal going on there. It’s just for a little while and it serves a purpose. Lots of mosquitoes around here, so big, it must be what my BFF, Myrtle meant when she called some the national bird in … where was that again? Secret. (Big hugs, Myrtle and the kiddies (“,) ) =D They’re feisty too. Or should I say feast-y. *tan-TaN-TAAAN
As much as I wanted to try something from every place in this visit, I assessed I just had enough room for a Malingsilog from Busog’Silog. There are two sizes available for the silog meals, 30 or 50silog and that comes with egg, garlic rice and unlimited soup. That was a hearty meal for P30. *burp
X marks Manna Garden Cafe for good food in Baguio … a heavensent haven for students (the financially challenged, and tightwads alike *hihi).
