UPDATE: Beggang Resto Grill

Going on the food adventure to Beggang with Beth, Race was intrigued about how it has fired up my appetite even further.  He just had to sample what the resto grill had to offer himself.

So, one April evening, we had our meal at Beggang resto.  Combo meal D, a plate of pork spare ribs in BBQ sauce served with buttered vegetables and rice, caught Race’s attention. Having somewhat of a filled tummy before getting to the food establishment, I got what was listed on the board of  today’s specials – fresh lumpia.  Fruit shakes, green mango shake and buko shake, were our dinner drinks.

On Race’s first visit to Beggang. =)

Needless to say, we enjoyed our meal. So much so, we came back again.

Supposedly, we were going to try their weekend breakfast buffet offering but we missed it by a week. *frowny face (for a split second)  No biggie since Race was going through his rib man phase.  =D We took a seat at one of the tables and ordered the same stuff we had in April.

Starters, soup for mami, yum. \m/

We had to wait a little longer for our a la carte ‘breakfast’ … which again, wasn’t a problem.  I made myself busy taking more photos of (and in *hee) the dining area.  Time and again, someone poked their head through the door asking about the buffet, too.  (It’ll be back in September when the rainy off season is over, guys.)  Our attendant, (probably feeling sorry for us not getting to try the sumptuous breakfast spread) served us some soup.  It was a comforting little bowl for a chilly July morning and wow, was it refreshingly different. It’s the broth that’s poured over mami, complete with garlic bits.  Ahhh. Thanks for that, Sir!

Going camera happy at the restogrill. =b

When Race’s plate of spare ribs was brought to the table, we still were awed by the size of the meat. (Is it possible, it even became bigger from the last time Race had it?)  ^^,

With his spare ribs combo meal. Dinosaur spare ribs? =))

Combo meal D. Spare ribs in barbeque sauce served with buttered veggies and rice.  Beautiful thing, this hunk of meat glazed with the sauce. Weee!

No need for the soy dip on the side.  The seasoning truly went through and through the fat and lean which was SUPERrrr tender.  Fork it up with the crunchy veggies … heaven.

Slicing meat from the spare ribs with a spoon. Yes, it’s that tender. Hhmmm, reminds me of the Sheriff of Nottingham’s line in Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood.
[the Sheriff has said he’ll cut Robin Hood’s heart out with a spoon for cutting his face … and then some. =b]
Guy of Gisborne: Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?
Sheriff of Nottingham: Because it’s DULL, you twit. It’ll hurt more. (I’m saying it now with Alan Rickman’s accent =)))
[speech about doing Robin in]
Sheriff of Nottingham [to the help about the gash on his cheek]: Now sew. (beat) Keep the stitches small.
Haaa, fun. Now, I have to rewatch that movie. *hihi

With nothing but the combo meal on the table, I ate from Race’s plate.  In the background, the blender was hard at work on my buko shake. All the effort was worth it because it’s the most natural, smoothest, creamiest buko shake I’ve ever had.  \m/ It was like melted ice cream.

Buko shake. ^^,

Starting the day out famished, we also got ensaladang talong with mangga/eggplant salad with mango.  I was happy to see Beggang’s own shrimp paste again.  In hindsight however, we shouldn’t have mixed everything with the veggies at once.  It lost it’s saltiness. Oh well, I know better now.

Ensaladang talong with mangga. =D  Hey, shrimp paste!

The last order that came to our table was my fresh lumpia.  It was a welcome sight again with its delicate egg wrapper *fave!  The roll was so stuffed, it burst open. (“,) The sauce was a bit watery this time but I liked this more than the mega flavored thick one poured on my first lumpia.  I loved every bit of this.  The grated garlic was so alive with flavor.  It was also sprinkled with an unidentified ingredient that gave a little crunch with my spoonfuls.  I wonder what that was, they looked like crumbled pieces of sotanghon.  *wonder wonder

Sure, we missed the buffet but with what we had (with leftovers for take home even), it’s like we still had a buffet meal.  (The buffet is P199 per person.  We spent P409.)

I’m moving Beggang to my favorites now.  How about you, eatcentrics?  Has Beggang restogrill fired up your appetite lately? =)
