Passion and Indulgence for Sweet Luxuries at Sweetmates
Food – it’s one of our most basic needs.
If you break food down to categories like dessert however, edible treats like cake, pastries, etc., can easily be referred to as luxuries. (If you’re wondering what the difference of luxury and need is all about, you just have to think about it this way: Will you die if you don’t have/get that particular thing? Giving a purely logical, no drama answer =b, it would most likely be a no.)
With the way that it’s going now, varieties of sweet edible creations are becoming readily available in the city everyday. Desserts are fast becoming a staple and we have Sweetmates to thank for that. So how about us going where the (baked goodies smelling) wind is blowing and indulging ourselves at their Legarda Road branch. (You know you want to. *snickers)
How Sweetmates Came to Be
Once, there was a 7-year-old girl named Lani who loved desserts so much. Such was her love that she would watch on tiptoe clinging to the counter as her aunt baked these delicious treats. At one point, watching was not enough and she tried baking on her own (with directions given to her by her aunt over the phone). These were a huge success according to her family members who were in a sense, her first ‘customers’.

Our refreshments ^^, Different mixes of java chill, Italian soda, strawberry smoothie, the basic but always good rootbeer float and my tropical cyclone mocktail – which made me feel like I should be lying under a beach umbrella poolside somewhere.

Bloggers Night hosted by Sweetmates. Nice to see you again, Baguio bloggers! Thanks for the fun/funny stories! Thank you so much for inviting us over, Maam Lani! You’ve got new customers in us now. (“,)
Even with the passing of the years, Lani’s passion for sweets didn’t die down. If anything, it even grew stronger. This was especially so with a dream she had about the name/word, Sweetmates. Moving to the city of Pines, she found out that she would have to bake cakes, breads, and other indulgent eatables for herself. (Apparently, these were scarce back in the day. I’m so glad to be alive in this day and age. *harhar) Through her sheer devotion to and for the love of dessert; the dessert depot, Sweetmates was born.

Just some of the desserts offered at Sweetmates. Sweeeeet! \m/ Blueberry muffin, King David’s cheesecake (oohhh a rich dessert with a myriad of textures, fluffy like a marshmallow, spongy like the softest bread and gooey toppings. In retrospect, I would’ve paired this with a hot beverage to balance out the luscious flavors), pastillas cheesecake, cream puff (the biggest I’ve ever seen…sometimes called cream boom by Maam Lani and son, Sir Rye), and tiramisu.

As if the Sweetmates dinner (yup, we had a main course, too … special, of course *hee The potato salad was delish!) wasn’t enough, Maam Lani sent us off with boxes of cupcakes and cream puffs (these were regular sized). Thank you so much, Maam! ^^, I had enough to share with my loved ones (furry and nonfurry *heehaha) who became instant converts to Sweetmates offering.

Parting sweet treats from Sweetmates … My furry family member going bomb sniffer on the boxes. Don’t worry, Moosey usi (usi like his human), there’s no bomb that will go cream boom there. (“,)
One bite from the cream puff and it became a favorite. It was stuffed puffy with delicious filling … I’m definitely getting the cream booms soon. The cupcakes, my family and I had cream on the tips of our noses (when we finally got over how pretty these were and started eating them). That’s enough testimony about the creamy & chocolate-y goodness of these, right? =)
X marks Sweetmates for good food (luxurious desserts that you can bite into and sip) in Baguio. From one woman’s passion, we can all indulge in sweet victuals, enough to make them something we can’t live without. Oh yeah!
Service: Superb for this visit. P3 is going see what it’s like on a regular visit … till next time, Sweetmates!
Price: TBD … will have to pay my own way next time to rate this properly.
UPDATE 04/17/2013: Got some cakes to go today. They’re P115 a sizable slice so that’s pretty reasonable. Didn’t get to stock up on cream booms for this visit. Anyhoo, something to note for you, my foodie friends. The cream booms go FAST!
Ambiance: The Legarda Road branch has been the venue for the beginning of many an engagement for sweethearts. (You might want to get some proposal ideas from Sir Rye – who has witnessed and was part of a lot of them. Whenever you’re ready, guys. *giggles)
UPDATE 09/19/2017: While Sweetmates Legarda has been turned into Shoti & Shobe Pares, Sho-baw, Atbp., Sweetmates now has three branches in food trip city, Baguio City.
