Barn Café: No Bats Here… Just Good Food (Krispy Kreme and J.Co in Baguio? Yes way!)
There’s a quote that goes “…old barns are full of bats”. The Barn Café is relatively new but just the same, Jo and I were curious. After going stalk mode over the web for information about this establishment, we set up an impromptu food adventure here.
Located in Lower Engineers’ Hill, in Quinto Alley, behind Canto Bogchi Joint (their old branch), we found ourselves looking at a modern structure. Going in, our gaze went from the high ceiling to the fabulous staircase and the cozy dining area complete with lounge chairs and couches. So living room-y. (“,)
UPDATE 08/23/2014: Barn Cafe that I knew of on the writing of this post (2012) had since turned into a real bar today (as per a comment left under this post by an anonymous food quester), proceed with caution, if you’re planning on coming here now for the ambiance.
Taking a seat at the table under the stairs, I noticed that they had Krispy Kreme and J. Co boxes in the cupboard and the refrigerator. Jo and I made a note to ask them if they sell those delectable donuts. We got ourselves a snack of fish and chips and also got glasses of raspberry milk teas on a 30% discount. (Hurry, visit their page, click Like for the photo of the raspberry milk tea to get the price slash. It’s only until December 15, 2012.)
UPDATE 04/10/2014: J.Co Donuts Technohub, CJH, Baguio is open!
UPDATE 04/11/2014: J.Co Donuts SM branch opens.
When our drinks arrived, our nice attendant instructed us to stir just so the raspberry that settled at the bottom of our glasses will mix well with everything else. Milky good with a hint of raspberry, nice. =D With our fish and chips, I always like it when the fish doesn’t have that fishy taste going on and the Barn Café’s version was perfect. No need to ask me about the potatoes… *heeharhar, you know how I feel about potatoes. Served with tangy tartar sauce, I didn’t feel the need to add ketchup for my dip.
We then ordered up dessert (yes, even to finish a light snack =b). Jo got blueberry cheesecake; meanwhile, I was torn between getting a slice of mocha cake or a J.Co donut (YES! They sell the stuff!). When our attendant showed me the box of donuts, the cookies and cream one called to me. Popped in the microwave oven for a few seconds and Jo and I were ready to rumble with dessert. With the cheesecake, it was creamier than cheesy, but it was okay. I loved how the blueberry topping was just dripping over the sides of the cake, beautiful contrast of colors! The donut was a donut, a delicious donut. ^^,

See the Krispy Kreme and J.Co donut boxes there? Yes, they sell them – per piece, half a dozen or by the dozen. Weeee! (“,)
After our snack, we went up the fabulous stairs to see what was happening on the second floor. So many people kept coming in and going up the stairs. We thought it was another dining area but really, it’s a boutique. (They have some nice stuff/interesting stuff up there; clothes, shoes, etc. Wagwagie-like. \m/ Check it out when you’re at the Barn.)
X marks the Barn Café for good food in Baguio. No bats here, afoodionados!
Food: We’ll have to come back and sample their other foodstuff.
for the effort of bringing Krispy Kreme and J.Co donuts to Baguio. Thank you, Barn Cafe!
Service: and
to our attendant, she was so nice, I liked her! Thanks so much, Maam!

Happy Christmas! (to you ate and to the Barn Cafe!) (“,)
Took us a while to find this cafe. No parking, we left the car some place quite far. Not much of a problem. I didn’t like the place as soon as I got it. Contrary to the blog post, Bran Cafe is tacky and doesn’t look well-maintained, it smelled like cigarette smoke and alcohol. That explains the Jager signs all over, I suppose. This isn’t so bad. But we expected a cozy resto because that’s what this article said. Fail.
Hello. I’m saddened to hear about your experience at Barn. I guess a lot has changed in the two years since this post had been written (that they decided to focus on being a bar more than a resto). Hoping that your next food trip in Baguio will be more rewarding. Keep on eatsploring! (“,)
