Coffee-houses in the City of Pines: Yagam and Gossip
Literal coffeehouses, we’ve got for today’s photoblog post with their origins as homes converted into establishments now selling food and coffee (with a couple non caffeinated selections for the insomniacs out there *heehaha). We could say they’re probably the most homey coffee shops in Baguio.
Cafe Yagam
Fireplace+chilly Baguio weather makes this the most coveted spot at the cafe.
Race’s iced coffee was true to form – dark and strong. Perhaps even too strong that he wanted extra ice and extra honey. =b The bugnay juice, I was glad for getting together with another beverage, a glass of regular mango juice. Both were refreshing but the bugnay juice was outstandingly so.
Quite a good burger, Race says but a tad overpriced for its simplicity. (Menu for Cafe Yagam, here.) =)
At this house transformed into cafe, it’s tables a-plenty. So much so that there’s space enough for a tutoring session (going on behind Race in the collage), staff/owner surfing on his laptop at another table, as well as one of the owners (I’m assuming they were the owners) knitting by the fireplace. \m/
Bilis = big dilis? *hihi A great combination with the shiitake mushrooms and the delicate capellini pasta.
Food: for Race’s burger and
for my pasta.
Drinks: for the bugnay juice.
for the rest of the drinks we had.
Ambiance: We wanted to take a seat at one of the tables in the porch so we could watch the fog roll in amid the trees but even if the class was happening at just one of the tables, books and other study paraphernalia were on the other tables. I felt like young Forrest Gump getting on a school bus where as he walked in, all the kids sitting solo on some seats went: “Seat’s taken.” =))
Cafe Yagam
Tala Guesthouse
25 J. Felipe Street, Gibraltar (situated between Hotel Elizabeth and Ridgewood Residences)
Baguio City, Philippines

Yagam Cafe and the guesthouse (on the lower floors. This building has many other floors under the cafe.)
Gossip Coffee Shop
There’s patio seating, “living room” seating and “dining” room (or just room *hee) seating areas at this coffee shop (see collage at the end of the blogpost). The counter (as well as the menu) is in the living room though so I guess that’s the most ideal spot especially if you want to order more grub and libation. =D
Lots of interesting minutia around Gossip.
Sweet and cooling with chocolatey cookie crumbles in every sip. *sip crunch
I placed an order for pasta almost similar to the one at Yagam. This time, tinapa pieces mixed in with spaghetti. ^^,
More ber in this cup than mang as evidenced by the color.
Drinks:
Gossip Coffee Shop
76 Upper General Luna Road (a few steps across from Pauline’s)

***There’s another home-y coffee shop in the city that would’ve fit perfectly into this list but let’s wait for its reopening first.
