Azotea Greens for Health
Baguio is a place well known for abundant, fresh farm produce, and it’s only right that there are restaurants that carry on a vegetarian theme for their offering. One of these establishments is Azotea Greens – though just recently opened (a couple of months in their new home at the La Azotea basement), is the toast of the town. (“,)
I heard about this place through my cousin’s wife whose friend told her – whoa, the power of word of mouth! (Shout out to Ina and her friend! Thank you so much for telling me about this place.) (I thought I checked all the eating places on Session Road off my list. *heeee)
Beth and Race signed up for this food adventure. (Karla, MIA – ‘Manila in action’ once again. =b) Once we got a table, the corner one with a view of the whole restaurant, we got into a frenzy ordering stuff up. Race got himself the citrus spare ribs rice meal and we got hot thick tofu soup, crispy kangkong in tofu mango sauce, (the ever popular, so many people are talking about it) mushroom sisig; and fettucine in tomato, basil and zucchini sauce to eat la mesa style (for sharing =D).
For drinks, our ‘butler’ (They have this thing going where their staff wears butler or maid outfits for uniforms. Our attendant pulled it off nicely. You look good, Sir! \m/) informed us that Azotea Greens had new drinks to offer. So Beth and I got the new ones, fusion which is like a smoothie of four fruits without the milk and creaminess and quartet which is two kinds of fruits and two kinds of vegetables blended together. Race got cookies and cream which has more cookies than cream really. (O reminder, we’re in a vegetarian restaurant. Although they’re not really averted to butter, milk, eggs and other meat-ish products like that, they still toned the milk down.)
The hot thick tofu soup was a welcome sight for us (totally forgot we didn’t have anything to eat for lunch *shyeew). (It was hot alright, temperature wise. The chili flavor only came out when I bit into the small red chilies mixed into the soup *teehee.) With every spoonful of broth and tofu cubes, our appetites were raring to go. We cleaned our bowls up in a snap. Race’s rice meal arrived and we had a taste of the cutlets of meat (mmmm, it really is citrus-y ^^,). We then left him to satisfy his hunger with that.
Next came our pasta. It was a gorgeous plate! It had a generous amount of sauce, topped with olives and slices of veggie hotdog, and you could even see the mushed up pieces of the tomatoes, mega yum! Just the kind of pasta I like, tomato-ey. (Again, something I could chow down on by myself. Hands off, Beth and Race!!! =D)
Before we even finished relishing in the tasty tomato-ey pasta, the mushroom sisig was delivered to our table. I got some of it and was so amused with the way the mushrooms churned in my mouth. This might be the same sort of feeling you get if you chew the tiny spherical shaped pieces of Styrofoam (mostly used as decoration snow). You squish the air out of it with your teeth. I know it’s a bad analogy =b (I mean well *hihi). Anyhoo, it’s ‘Styrofoam’ consistency that’s tasty and flavorful. (“,) Now, we know why it’s such a hit with the other Azotea Greens patrons.
The crispy kangkong was the last plate of food that arrived at our table. It’s a wonder how they made it so crispy without frying it in batter. Note to you if you order this: Eat it while it’s hot. It sort of loses its flavor when it gets cold. There really isn’t any need to dip it into the tofu mango sauce; it’s savory on its own. We used the sauce for the garnish lettuce that the kangkong was plated on. (Oh, yes, the cows in action! No greens left on the plate! Yeah! =D)
Shifting our focus to the drinks, fusion and quartet were great choices for us. Even without the milk to make it creamy, it was still delectable. We could just feel the healthy foodstuff doing its work. Like I mentioned about Race’s cookies and cream, it was more cookie than cream but it’s still delicious (liquefied cookie for the one who can’t chew hard stuff *harharhar).
No meal would be complete without dessert and Azotea Greens served cakes and pastries for the proper finish. Nice! Lemon cheesecake wasn’t available then so we got blueberry. Now, THIS was a creamy dessert *nomnomnom, not that much of a cheesy flavor. Frankly, I would’ve wanted more blueberry sauce, though. =D
For die hard vegetarians or someone who’s just trying out what dishes are offered in Baguio City, (even just a veggie dog like one of my furry companions ^^,), Azotea Greens is a good place to get good (and healthy) food. (You wouldn’t even notice that you’re eating plates of green with selections like spare ribs. They also have drumsticks and smoked barbeque – I’m guessing that’s made of tofu also, feigning meat. So cool. \m/)
It’s a green light for health at Azotea Greens!
