Celebrating National Sardines Day with Mega Brand Sardines
Tomorrow, November 24, 2019, is National Sardines Day. =D
The best way to commemorate the event, they said (they as in Uncle Google material *hihi), is to share a can or two with a friend. In the case of the Philippines’ first ever National Sardines Day, Mega Global Corporation, the leading distributor of canned goods in the Philippine Islands, is sharing (more than two) cans of sardines with me.

One in their line up of products that I’m addicted to at the moment: Mega Prime flavored nata de coco. Instant buco pandan and instant coffee jelly! Just mix in the milky creamy ingredients called for in the two recipes and voila. \m/
If you’ve been a reader on this blog from the time I started, you’d sort of remember that me no likey sardines much. For two reasons. One, I feel I’ve gotten my fill of it when I was younger (lots of repeat ulams … I’d say because life was preeeetty lemon-y then. =b). Two, I’m not a seafood person mainly because of the ‘malansa‘ taste that comes with it. (Did I ever tell you the story of my sardines baon spilling onto my books and notebooks in my elementary school bag? Daaang, fishy smell for the whole school year. Whoop-tee-doo. =)) )
Seems like November 2019 is a gaining-new-perspectives month for me. \m/ When the package of Mega sardines arrived yesterday, my foodie lovies and I thought of making dinner out of the basic flavor, sardines in tomato sauce, as well as Spanish sardines cans. We just heated them up and took them as they were for our first Mega meal. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the regular sardines flavor. [We do get tausi and Spanish sardines (from different brands) once in a blue moon, but even then, I eat sparingly.] The sardines tasted fab and it wasn’t at all too fishy. The best part, the usual annoying icky flavor from other brand sardines didn’t go into the tomato sauce whatsoever. Who would’ve thunk that I’d be spooning some more sauce and more sardines onto my rice? (“,)
Now for the Spanish sardines one, whoa, did that pack in a spicy kick. So pleasantly flavored were the fishies that when we bit into the middle, there’s a little burst of saltiness there to give our tastebuds a break from the major spicy oil taste of this particular flavor. =) After our meal, there was no fishy odor lingering in the air … or on my dogs’ snouts either. (Yes, my furiends do have plain sardines in tomato sauce mealtimes once in a while. Of course, they’ll celebrate Sardines Day with me.)
Is that the magic that is Mega Corp’s 12-hour-catching-to-canning process? That just might be it. And I am thankfully amazed by it. Also, Mega sardines comes in easy open cans, so it’s even easier for us to get to these freshly-packed-the-same-day silver fishy healthy morsels. ^^,
Thank you, Mega Global for sending me samples of your deeelicious sardines to try. I wouldn’t have tasted it otherwise … but now that I know what I know, when I get sardines again, I’ll make it Mega. (That is, as soon as the sardine stash you sent me is finished off. *heehaha Thank you so much! More power!)
As for you, dear reader, you can get your cans to celebrate sardine day with from a grocery store near you. Happy Sardines Day!

*heehaha More specifically, Mega sardines. =b
Thanks for reading this feature post on Philippines’ first National Sardines Day and Mega Global’s most popular canned good. I really appreciate the support, Mario. (“,)
I have tasted mega global extra hot and spanish sardines its very good
Hello, L.T.! I have yet to try the extra hot Mega sardines. I’m psyching myself up to it since I’m a lightweight when it comes to spicy stuff. The Spanish sardines already got me runny nosed.
Thank you for visiting FGBFs blog. Happy eatsplorations! (“,)
