Student Fare, Bakakeng: Cafe de Illustradoz and Food Ville

Bakakeng today (yes, I’m fixated on the location at the moment *hihi) is a far cry from the Bakakeng of my memories.  It was one that had an outskirts type of feel to it that was changed with the arrival of a school and its students.  Now, it seems like everything you’ll ever need here is attainable with the barangay residents transforming their garages, front lawns or backyards into businesses.

(This so reminds me of how my best friend, Myrtle used to say how she loved the prospect of relocating to where I lived. On the ‘university belt’, it seemed like barangays with its eateries, convenience stores, laundry shops, PC rooms, etc., could be a city on its own, she said. Big hugs, Myrtle and the kiddies! (“,))

UPDATE: Beggang Resto Grill

Going on the food adventure to Beggang with Beth, Race was intrigued about how it has fired up my appetite even further.  He just had to sample what the resto grill had to offer himself.

So, one April evening, we had our meal at Beggang resto.  Combo meal D, a plate of pork spare ribs in BBQ sauce served with buttered vegetables and rice, caught Race’s attention. Having somewhat of a filled tummy before getting to the food establishment, I got what was listed on the board of  today’s specials – fresh lumpia.  Fruit shakes, green mango shake and buko shake, were our dinner drinks.

UPDATE: The Venizes (Cafe Veniz & Veniz Grill)

It has come to my attention that I never really left that many pieces of information about the sister restaurants at Hotel Veniz, whether it’s about the cafe or the grill.

I just mentioned that the Venizes is where my P3 posse and I hung out the most since:

  • it’s right smack in the middle of the central business district,
  • they’ve got a variety of dishes to offer,
  • and the lot of that, all for a reasonable price.

Between the two of these places where to eat in Baguio, the most photos I have from the early beginnings of the Baguio food quest are at Veniz Grill.  (Oh, how we love their Mongolian buffet spread … I’m reminiscing now about all the hours we spent there just satisfying our hunger, relaxing and having fun after a hard day’s work.)

I thought all those points would be enough to inspire you, my fellow Baguio eatsplorers to make Cafe Veniz or Veniz Grill one of your food destinations while in the City of Pines and considering that’s my first post about a Baguio restaurant ever, I hope you forgive me.
