UPDATE: The Venizes (Cafe Veniz & Veniz Grill)

It has come to my attention that I never really left that many pieces of information about the sister restaurants at Hotel Veniz, whether it’s about the cafe or the grill.

I just mentioned that the Venizes is where my P3 posse and I hung out the most since:

  • it’s right smack in the middle of the central business district,
  • they’ve got a variety of dishes to offer,
  • and the lot of that, all for a reasonable price.

Between the two of these places where to eat in Baguio, the most photos I have from the early beginnings of the Baguio food quest are at Veniz Grill.  (Oh, how we love their Mongolian buffet spread … I’m reminiscing now about all the hours we spent there just satisfying our hunger, relaxing and having fun after a hard day’s work.)

I thought all those points would be enough to inspire you, my fellow Baguio eatsplorers to make Cafe Veniz or Veniz Grill one of your food destinations while in the City of Pines and considering that’s my first post about a Baguio restaurant ever, I hope you forgive me.

Anyhoo, it’s a deficiency that’s easily rectified. So here goes, Veniz Grill vs. Cafe Veniz (in pictures).  (“,) Read More…

A Moment of Peace at Cafe de Angelo

With an area of 57.5 square kilometers, Baguio City is a pretty small city.  Although it’s not the smallest (According to some funny man on Yahoo answers, it’s Legoland with its scaled down buildings and its temporary population. =b) and not that big either, it can still be pretty noisy with sounds like passing vehicles, welding sounds from a nearby construction etc. going on in the surroundings.

Sometimes, you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle.  If only for a short period of time like lunchtime, snack time or an early dinner, the perfect dining experience would be at some place quiet.  So where to eat in Baguio?  Think outskirts of the city like Eve’s Garden and Mama’s Table.  For someone on a budget, however, these places may be out of the question.

Walking on the Gustatory Memory Lane at Ebai’s Cafe and Pastry

As a kid, one of the meals that was regularly served in our home for lunch/dinner (most of the time it was lunch AND dinner =b) was dinengdeng, pinakbet and viands that had something to do with bagoong.  Since these dishes were chock-full of veggies, I didn’t really like them then.  Eew, saluyot! (I suppose I went through that normal phase of childhood where vegetables were the enemy at meal time.  I always felt like I could eat hotdogs, chicken, spaghetti, chocolates, ice cream and cake every meal of every day of my life. That’s six meals covered … and repeat. *snicker snicker)

There really wasn’t any choice when the mealtime bell rang and the plate laid out in front of me had a mountainous pile of rice and viand.  As a coping mechanism, my brother and I would ‘play’ with our food imagining it to be other things just so we could finish it. (No one leaves the table without a clean plate in our house. That’s a strict rule.  Just ask my brother who sat there … sleepily… for hours until he finished. Before he knew it, it’s dinner time! Say it like Yzma from Emperor’s New Groove =D)
